Frequent Asked Questions
Change-@-Phone
Is the Change-@-Phone internal web server accessible over cellular data network (GPRS/EDGE/3G)?
Yes. The internal web server is accessible over WiFi as well as over the cellular data network. Note that
the connection needs to be fully operational before starting the program, or it will not be able to determine that there
is an active network connection.
Is there any limitation or restriction for using the file transfer feature over cellular data network (GPRS/EDGE/3G)?
For proper operation, the cellular operator must not filter inbound connections nor the assigned
server port number. The later can be changed in the File Transfer tab. Also, the IP address
that is assined to the iPhone must be a valid Internet address. If the cellular operator assigns
private, and therefore invalid, IP addresses (per RCF 1918 ranges 10.0.0.0 to 10.255.255.255, 172.16.0.0 to 172.31.255.255 and
192.168.0.0 to 192.168.255.255) the internal web server will be unreacheable from the Internet.
Can I use any regular expression in a Rule's matching pattern?
Yes. Any regular expression can be used. For example, the download area
contains a few examples that make use of more complex matching patterns.
Will Change-@-Phone work under iPhoneOS 3.0?
Yes. Change-@-Phone incorporate a workaround to handle a bug/difference in the Address Book API,
so it will work on any iPhoneOS version starting from 2.0.
For how long will Change-@-Phone support iPhoneOS 2.x?
For as long as it is possible. There are two factors that need to be considered that are
Apple's iPhone SDK (Software Development Kit) capability to generate iPhoneOS 2.x compatible Apps and the new
or improved features of Change-@-Phone. Either one may cause support for older versions of iPhoneOS to be dropped
in the future.
Will Change-@-Phone make changes to the Favorites telephone numbers?
No. Unfortunately, Apple's SDK does not provide a sanctioned interface to
modify the telephone numbers stored as Favorites. If and when Apple decides to provide such interface,
Change-@-Phone will be able to incorporate this feature.
